Our professional design consultant will help you select key features, like the style, color, and other components that integrate with your personal taste.
Depending on your custom remodel, you may discuss:
- Cabinetry and countertops
- Lighting and plumbing fixtures
- Wiring options (home automation and security)
- Flooring (tile, hardwood, vinyl, etc.)
- Hardware
- Paint colors
- Tile backsplashes
- Accent Finishes
- And more…
Structural changes are often involved in a remodel, which can include (but are not limited to) bay windows, additional garage, extra bedrooms, a study or media room, etc.
Based on your vision, Outlook Construction & Remodeling works diligently to create the design concepts with our in-house draftsperson. During the entire process, we work closely with you, to make sure every remodel detail you requested is realized.
Plan Review & Permitting
When it comes to custom remodeling and additions for your home in Flagstaff, it’s essential that all permits are in place before you begin construction.
Our team works closely with Flagstaff City’s & Coconino County’s building division to ensure everything you request is up to code. If there are any kinks in the road, we’ll notify you immediately. Transparency is vital to our reputation and the only way we operate.
Sometimes issues do occur. In this case, we will update the concepts and plans with redraws or edits. These are always sent to you for approval before moving forward.
At this point, the addition & remodeling contractors are ready to start coordinating the project.

Addition & Remodeling Construction FAQs
Is an addition considered a renovation?
A home addition and a renovation can be considered the same thing, depending on what you choose to do with the additional space. If you want to renovate your kitchen or bathrooms and add more living space with an addition at the same time, it may be appropriate to refer to the combined project as a renovation. In most cases, however, homeowners who add on extra rooms or create new areas for entertaining do not call their project a “renovation,” but instead choose more specific terms such as “addition,” “room addition” or perhaps even more descriptive words like “family room addition.”
In general, when additional space is being added to an existing structure, the project is considered an “addition” while a “renovation” and “remodel” usually refers to updating existing structures and rooms.
What is considered a major remodel?
A major remodel usually involves the remodeling or alteration of any existing building or structure that consists of upgrading most items in the space as well as potentially changing the architectural layout of the space. Often, major remodels can also involve residents relocating while the project is completed. Some common types of projects that may be considered a major remodel include bathroom/kitchen additions, building an addition to the home or garage, converting rooms into bedrooms, moving walls, or replacing roofs and windows.
Is a custom addition to my house worth it?
Adding a custom home addition can have positive effects on not only resale value, but your enjoyment of your home. Still, there are some things you should consider before determining whether a custom addition is worth it in your particular case. If you feel as though you need extra space in your home but don’t want to move, a custom room addition could be the perfect solution.
Although it can be time-consuming, the benefits far outweigh the cost of convenience. Not only does it add value, but a custom addition also gives you a chance to showcase your personal creativity.
Is an addition still possible on a small lot?
Many people are interested in adding an addition to their home but are limited by the size of their lot. When thinking about your future goals for your family, you may consider adding a new bedroom, bathroom, garage, or den to your house. With the right foresight and creativity, you can create a living space above or beside your current home.
Depending on how your property is zoned, there is a set percentage of the lot that you are allowed to build out on. Property zonings are different for every region, and Flagstaff has rather stringent laws. Usually, building an addition to your home is not an issue. At Outlook Construction & Remodeling, we will work to ensure that your addition falls within local zoning requirements.
How much is a remodel or addition going to cost?
Determining the exact cost of a remodel or addition is not as simple as calling three contractors and asking them what they charge for their services. The truth is that there are many variables that go into pricing your project.
Any type of pre-construction estimate is simply an educated guess. Sometimes there are unforeseen site or house conditions that may increase the price. Unless the project is rather small, any upfront quote is a guesstimate based on our expertise and knowledge.
After our clients sign a design contract with us, we begin to dial a more complete estimate. We work with you to determine the selections you want and we gather quotes from our tradespeople based on the scope of work and plans. After this process, we are able to give a more exact estimate; however, this is still an estimate and could change once the work begins. This is especially true if there are an additional large amount of custom requests. Even so, we work closely with every client to ensure all costs and plans are approved beforehand, and in accordance with your stated budget.
